Pain Management Center

The UNC Hospitals Pain Management Center is located in Chapel Hill’s Southern Village. Our convenient location offers free on-site parking for patients. Our clinic is staffed by board certified anesthesiologists, with services complimented by a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Pharmacy Practitioner as well as a Pain Psychologist. Our providers are able to:

  • Determine the source of pain
  • Develop and implement a customized, comprehensive treatment plan to ease or eliminate discomfort and return  the patient to the highest functional level possible
  • Minimize the side effect profile of our treatment

Types of Treatment

Because each patient's needs are unique, we offer innovative clinical techniques for treating an array of painful conditions. These include rehabilitation, behavior modification, relaxation techniques and biofeedback, pharmacological treatment, psychological evaluation and treatment, and other clinically proven, evidence based alternatives.

We also provide the expertise to implement a wide range of medical and surgical interventions both on an inpatient and outpatient basis. Specifically, these include:

  • Cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and caudel epidural steroid injections
  • Peripheral nerve blocks
  • Continuous infusion catheters (peripheral nerve, epidural, and intrathecal)
  • Sympathetic ganglia nerve blocks such as sphenopalatine, cervicothoracic, lumbar sympathetic, celiac plexus, superior and interior hypogastric, and impar ganglia
  • Intra-articular facet injections
  • Medial branch blocks (cervical, thoracic, and lumbar)
  • Radio frequency thermocoagulation (cervical, thoracic, and lumbar)
  • Neurolytic procedures for peripheral nerves
  • Trigger point injections
  • Discography
  • Neuromodulation techniques with implantable technology for peripheral or central nervous system (intrathecal pumps or spinal cord stimulation)
  • Psychological evaluation and therapy

Driving Directions to the UNC Hospitals Pain Management Center:

 

The UNC Hospitals Pain Management Center is located in Chapel Hill’s Southern Village. We are located at 410 Market Street (Building 410), Suite 362. We are in the same building as Edible Arrangements and the Merlion restaurant. Parking is available out front as well as underneath our building.

Directions to Southern Village: 

From I-40 West

• Exit #273 A (NC Hwy 54) toward Chapel Hill.
• Drive west on NC Hwy 54 for about 2.9 miles.
• Exit right for 15-501 South.
• Drive about 1.9 miles on 15-501 South.
• Exit on right for Pittsboro 15-501 South.
• Turn left at top of exit ramp onto 15-501 South.
• Drive about 1.2 miles and then turn right onto Market Street (4th traffic light) into Southern Village.

From I-40 East

• Exit #270 (15-501) toward Chapel Hill/Durham.
• Turn right at exit ramp onto 15-501 South.
• Continue of 15-501 South for about 5.3 miles.
• Exit on right for Pittsboro 15-501 South.
• Turn left at top of exit ramp onto 15-501 South.
• Drive about 1.2 miles and then turn right onto Market Street (4th traffic light) into Southern Village.

From downtown Chapel Hill

• Take South Columbia Street toward Fraternity Court.
• Turn right at West Cameron Avenue.
• Turn left at South Columbia Street/Pittsboro Street staying on this road as it crosses over. the highway and becomes NC-86/US 15-501 South.
• Drive about 1.1 miles and turn right onto Market Street into Southern Village.

From Pittsboro/Chatham County

• From Cole Park Plaza (intersection of 15-501 and Manns Chapel Road), follow 15-501 North about 2.8 miles.
• Turn left onto Market Street (at traffic light) into Southern Village.

Public Transportation

Chapel Hill Transit buses are free! Bus routes "NS" and "V" run frequently and stop at the Southern Village Park-and-Ride, which is just a few steps away from Market Street, our retail, dining & entertainment center. Route V travels between Southern Village and Meadowmont, while NS travels north on MLK Blvd. Both routes stop on or near the UNC campus, which is less than 15 minutes away from Southern Village by bus.
